Rainbow Lies 03:37
They all hide In the darkened corners Of my mind They will never leave Thatā€™s a guarantee Never going back To my reality I just want to sleep I just want to dream Let me go Let me go LET ME GO This hell through Rainbow Eyes Let. It. Go. Shadow work Within so deep Iā€™ve lost control Memories Thrust decayed hands Through the soil of my mind Leading me To wonder How does one kill a memory? Please let me goā€¦ This hell through Rainbow Eyes Let. It. Go. Swimming through the galaxies Of our lives I will never be set free From the phantoms of my mind (I will never be set free From these lies) I will never be released From my crimes (I will never be set free From these lies) This is hell This is hell This is hell Through rainbow LIES Through rainbow lies Through rainbow lies Rainbow lies Rainbow lies.

Before I Die 02:50
Wake me up Wake me up Wake me up This is no dreamā€¦ My distorted memories Are playing Stretched across That movie screen Youā€™re viewing Looking back I see that I was wrongā€¦ Iā€™d like to start again and Make this right Cleaning up my past mistakes Before I die This is not reality This is not reality This is not reality Now is when Iā€™m falling back to sleep Returning to other dreams and realities Looking back I see that I was wrongā€¦ Iā€™d like to start again And make this right Cleaning up my past mistakes Before I die Before I die Before I die Before I die Cleaning up before I die Iā€™d like to start again And make this right Cleaning up my past mistakes Before I dieā€¦

Clawing from within The Muse will begin To eat away At your brain Clawing from within The Muse will demand Your sacrifice Of your life You cannot ignore the command If you do your life will be forfeit Embrace the Muse X2 Devourer of Souls X2 Late at night Or early morning The Muse Doesnā€™t care About you It only wishes to feed Itself Itā€™s greedy Even if itā€™s life Or death The Muse only cares About Itself Without the Muse You are nothing Devourer of Souls X2 Devourer Devourer Devourer of Souls

Six Feet 02:12
Dearly departed We are gathered here today In mourning of the star We lost along the way The brightest will Become the darkest of us all Committed to the soil That we may rise above Grab your shovel Use those muscles Dig it deeper DIG IT DEEPER Buried all my hurts Under Six feet of earth Dearly departed We are gathered here today To say goodbye to what remains His was just a hollow life Reflected in his sins He paid the price It was their lives Grab your shovel Use those muscles Dig it DEEPER DIG IT DEEPER Bury all my hurt With this Shadow work Bury all my hurt Under six Feet of Earth

about

Dedicated to my mother, Katrina Cannon, who never got the chance to hear this or any song I've written this year.

The process of creating this album is difficult to describe.

My last album was released in 2012 under the name Anathema Black, it was self-titled. Much like this album originally was.

I toyed around with a few names before initially settling on Shadow Work, because that's what this album was for me. A process of healing. Even in songs like Masterpiece of Steel and Land of Plenty, which are among my favorite memories from this album. The main thing that sets this album apart from the others, however, is that a Roland drum kit was added to the arsenal this year and I have taken EVERY advantage of having a live drummer for the first time in my life.

It's made every fucking difference possible, and I'd almost never go back to programmed drums again! Unreal!

Now if I could just play a proper blast beat! šŸ˜¤

I wrote all of these songs backwards, music first. The lyrics and melodies were written in tandem, on the fly, off the top of my head. Just like every riff and note of these songs. Nothing was polished up more than was necessary for coherency.

Mainly you'll find themes of insecurity, uncertainty, how I view the creative process being a sacrifice of a piece of one's soul to the very Muse herself, and many more vague, cryptic bastardries! Look hard enough and you'll find politics and honesty.

Thanks go to my family first and foremost: Megan, Perrin, Rand, thank you for putting up with my hyperfocus on creating musically this year, I love you all more than the Muse.

HUGE thanks to Randel Agrella, without whom the drums on this album would be literally impossible.

My old family on GuitarChaos back when it was my home on the internet. Roo, Ed, Sarge, Andy, Shaun, and everyone else. If it wasn't for your support and advice in the early days, I know I wouldn't be half the musician I am today.

Special thanks and credit goes to Kaylah for her undying love of MGK and getting me interested in his recent albums with Travis Barker. Never thought I'd thank a rapper for making me pick up my guitar again, but here we are! I'm literally here for it!

Recorded at Abundant Acres. Or sometimes in Caribou. Oftentimes on the road at 5am on my way to work, or various times on the way home in the mobile studio.
